STUDENTS rejoiced as schools reopened, after staying at home for weeks during the Covid-19 outbreak.

Teachers were also eager to teach the students.

This was said by Education Minister Datuk Seri Setia Awang Haji Hamzah Haji Sulaiman during a press conference yesterday.

The minister said the public’s reaction towards the reopening of schools after nearly 11 weeks had been positive but there were “teething problems” that needed to be resolved.

He said there were issues with traffic congestion when parents dropped off and fetched their children, while teachers and students are still coming to terms with “new norms” such as physical distancing measures.

“There were students not used to wearing face masks and felt uneasy breathing and interacting with their teachers, ” Awang Haji Hamzah said.

It will take time for some students to get used to practising good hygiene and wearing protective face masks at schools, the minister added. — Borneo Bulletin/ANN
